Website error when selecting any object after a successful login on the Orion website / Solarwinds Orion Module Engine was on and off

Overview

The SolarWinds Orion Module Engine was on and off. The following error is received in the Web Console:

 

There was no endpoint listening at net.tcp://zs-orion:17777/orion/core/businesslayer that could accept the message.

 

The Business Layer host log contains the following error:

  • There was no endpoint listening at net.tcp://eng-srv-swweb:17777/SolarWinds/InformationService
  • System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException: Could not connect to net.tcp://eng-srv-swweb:17777/SolarWinds/InformationService/Orion/certificate. The connection attempt lasted for a time span of 00:00:01.0001000. TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 10.130.200.230:17777.  ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 10.130.200.230:17777

Environment

  • NPM 11.5.2
  • NPM 11.5.3

Cause 

The issue existed after a recent Windows update. Also, the .Net Framework Services could not be started on the local Services.

Resolution

  • Install the missing Microsoft Visual C++ component. Note: It always comes in pair for each version and should contain both x64 and x86.

    • Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x64) – 11.0.61030
    • Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86) – 11.0.61030
    • Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable (x64) – 12.0.21005
    • Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable (x86) – 12.0.21005
  • Repair/Re-install the .Net Framework 3.5
