Web error when accessing a Report Writer report

Overview

The following errors occur when opening a report from Orion Report Writer in the Orion Web Console. Web-based reports open fine and can be successfully launched using the Orion Report Writer.

Web Console error:

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80004005): Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component. at C1Query80.C1QueryFrameClass.LoadFromXML(String XML) at SolarWinds.Orion.Web.Reporting.C1QueryWrapper.FieldsLoadFromXML(String fileName) at SolarWinds.Orion.Web.Reporting.OrionReport.BuildQuery(String orderBy, String grouping, String filter) at SolarWinds.Orion.Web.Reporting.ReportRunner.WorkerProc(Object state)

 

Orion Web log error:

ERROR SolarWinds.Orion.Web.Reporting.ReportRunner - (null)  Rendering report failed

Environment

All NPM versions

Cause 

The errors are caused by a corrupted file.

Resolution

  1. Stop All the Orion Services.

  2. Stop the IIS service, generally named World Wide Web Publishing Service.

  3. Go to C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root and delete everything in this directory (.Net cache).

  4. Go to C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root and delete everything in this directory (.Net cache).

  5. Restart the IIS service.

  6. Restart all SolarWinds services via Orion Service Manager.
