Web Console Intermittently showing error no endpoint listening (Module Engine / Business Layer service stopping)

Overview

A number of pages in the Orion Web Console fail with the error message:

 

Error: There was no endpoint listening at...

 

Also, the Module Engine / Business Layer service maybe stopping on the main SolarWinds server.

Environment

NPM 11.x

Cause 

The latest VC++ 2013 Redistributable, both 32 bit (x86) or 64 bit (x64), maybe missing from the list of installed programs on the related SolarWinds server. Both are required to be installed for the Module Engine / Business Layer service to run correctly.

Resolution

Note: Stop any antivirus or scanning software before proceeding with the following steps.

  1. Log in to the related server as a Local Administrator.
  2. Install the latest VC++ 2013 Redistributable, both 32 bit and 64 bit as required:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784 
  3. Restart all Orion services using the Orion Service Manager.
    Note: Wait a few minutes for the server to respond as normal and then verify the issue described is now resolved.
