Warning when upgrading to SolarWinds NPM 11.5.2 or SolarWinds SAM 6.2.1

Overview

This article provides brief information on the issue when upgrading to SolarWinds NPM 11.5.2 or SolarWinds SAM 6.2.1, a warning is displayed, indicating that Virtualization Manager is running on an older version.

The warning is displayed if Virtualization Manager has not been updated to the most recent version (version 6.3).

Environment

  • SolarWinds NPM version 11.5.2
  • SolarWinds SAM version 6.2.1
  • SolarWinds IVIM version  2.1
  • SolarWinds VMan version  6.3

Cause

Upgrading to SolarWinds NPM 11.5.2 or SolarWinds SAM 6.2.1 also updates SolarWinds Integrated Virtual Infrastructure Monitor (IVIM) to version 2.1.

IVIM 2.1 is designed to function optimally together with Virtualization Manager 6.3.

In IVIM 2.1, the following virtual machine management actions are designed to be updated within ten minutes after the management action is completed:

  • VM migration
  • VM storage migration
  • VM deletion

If Virtualization Manager is not updated to version 6.3, the results of these management actions will only be reflected after the next configuration poll is completed. The delay can take up to 12 hours, and during that timeframe, the information that is displayed about the status of the virtual machine or host might not be accurate.

Resolution

To avoid compatibility issues and to make sure that the data displayed in the Orion Web Console is up to date, upgrade Virtualization Manager to version 6.3 when you are upgrading SAM or NPM to the most recent versions.
