Virtual machine is not linked to nodes in Orion

Issue:

Virtual machines are not linked to nodes in Orion.

Cause:

Virtual machine mapping exception. The following error is found in VIM.BusinessLayer.log:

Exception in mapping Virtual machines to Nodes System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlNullValueException: Data is Null. This method or property cannot be called on Null values.

Resolution:

To resolve the VM mapping exception:
1. Stop Orion Services -
2. Create a backup of the Orion database. This is done via MS SQL Management Studio - Creating a Database Backup.

3. Run the following script in MS SQL Server Management Studio:
  UPDATE dbo.VIM_VirtualMachines SET NodeID=NULL WHERE NodeID NOT IN(SELECT NodeID FROM dbo.Nodes)
4. Run the DB maintenance:
  1.     Go to Start > Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Database Maintenance
  2.     Click Start.
5. Start Orion services - How to Start/Stop Orion Services.
