Overview

Sometimes devices are found during a network discovery that you never intend to monitor with Orion NPM. The Discovery Ignore List is a record of these devices. Placing devices on the Discovery Ignore List can minimize the SNMP processing load associated with discovering devices that you never intend to monitor.

Environment

All NPM versions

Detail

The Discovery Ignore List is based on matching IP addresses. Adding a device to the Ignore List updates the DiscoveryIgnored tables.

For example, an added node that updates the DiscoveryIgnoredNodes table with the EngineID (of the poller), IP Address, and Caption. The list only triggers an "ignore" if all those items are true.

If a node arrives with a previously used IP address but the caption and/or description is different, it will not be ignored and show up as a new device.
