Use the PollerCheckerTool.exe to check and update OIDs

Table of contents

Updated March 11th, 2016

This article describes how to use the PollerCheckerTool.exe to see what OID NPM is using to poll the device and to change the OID to a different one if the device supports it and it is giving a better value.

NPM v10.0 and later

  1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion and run the PollerCheckerTool.exe.
  2. Use the drop down at the top to Test on Nodes
  3. Select the problem Node on the left hand side and then check the box for CPU or Memory, or and other poller you want to check.
  4. Click Detect Pollers and it will test all the Pollers that NPM uses against that device. The ones that return in red are those that the device does not support, the ones in light green are supported, and the ones in dark green are those currently being used byu the device.
  5. You can right click on any of the green results and click View Details to see the OID and what the device responded with.
  6. If you want to change the poller to light green, select it and click Add/Replace Pollers. You will get a pop up cautioning you about the change. Hit OK and then go to the Web Console in NPM and click Poll Now.
Give it about 5 minutes to poll and you will see the values in the charts changed to the result that is the same with the new poller.
  7. The new poller will only affect the polling data going forward and not the historical data.
