Upgrade and migration error: RunQuery failed, check fault information

Overview

 

The following license error appears on the Orion Web Console after migrating the server using cloning and upgrading the version:

There was an error retrieving data from SolarWinds Information Service

RunQuery failed, check fault information.
The following message also appears in the information log:

2015-12-22 16:13:52,270 [39] ERROR SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Common.Licensing.ModuleLicenseInfoProvider - SolarWinds.RecommendationEngine.BusinessLayer.CriteriaValidators.SWQLCriteriaValidator.IsValid()      Unable to load Liceses. SolarWinds.Licensing.Framework.SolarWindsLicensingException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Cause 

 

This occurs when there is a license type mismatch.

Resolution

  1. Deactivate the existing (Gen 2) license. Refer to Deactivate and register licenses
  2. Go to the SolarWinds Customer Portal.
  3. Register the new license (Gen 3).
