WebinarUpcoming Webinar: Know What’s Changed – with NEW Server Configuration Monitor

Change management in IT is critical. But, even with a good change management process, changes are too often not correctly tracked, if at all. The configuration of your servers and applications is a key factor in their performance, availability, and security. Many incidents can be tracked back to an authorized (and sometimes unauthorized) configuration change, whether to a system file, configuration file, or Windows® Registry entry. Join SolarWinds VP of product management Brandon Shopp to discover how the new SolarWinds® Server Configuration Monitor is designed to help you.

Unable to stop SQL Express services after database migration

Overview

Unable to stop SQL Express services after migrating the database.

The SQL service is showing dependencies with Orion services.

Environment

  • SQL Express
  • All Orion versions

Cause

SQL Express installed on the same server will create dependencies with the Orion services and they will remain until the services are uninstalled and reinstalled.

Resolution

  1. Log in to your server as Local Administrator.

  2. Turn off UAC (User Account Control).Log back in as a Local admin after the reboot (required).

  3. Open Orion Service Manager and stop all services.

  4. Click Control Panel > Programs and Features, and uninstall the following:

    SolarWinds Job Engine v1

    SolarWinds Job Engine v2

    SolarWinds Collector

    SolarWinds Information Service

  5. Go to C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Installers and run the following msi files:

    CollectorInstall.msi

    JobEngine.msi

    JobEngine.v2.msi

    InformationService.msi

  6. Go back to Programs and Features in the Control Panel. Right click Orion Core Service and then choose Repair. This will run the Configuration Wizard.

  7. Stop the SQL service, this will clear the SQL service dependencies to the Orion services
