Overview

The following error message is displayed in the email subject of a scheduled report exported to MS Excel:

Unable to retrieve URL using Excel type.

Environment

NPM 11.0 and later

Cause

This error is caused by any of the following:

  • The URL cannot be retrieved because of incorrect binding settings for the website.
  • The report is exporting raw data from a chart or report.

Resolution

The URL cannot be retrieved because of incorrect binding settings for the website.

Solution 1:

  1. Go to IIS and change the bindings to All Unassigned. Refer to Add or Edit Site Binding Dialog Box (© 2017 Microsoft, available at https://technet.microsoft.com/, obtained on June 20, 2017.).
  2. Rerun the reports.

Solution 2:

  1. Check the expiration of the SSL certificates.

The report is exporting raw data from a chart or report.

Recreate or modify the chart or report and use Custom Table instead of Custom Report when exporting the raw data.
