Unable to log to the Web Console using a domain account

This article provides information on the issue where users are unable to log in using domain credentials to the Orion Web Console. There are no obvious errors or issues with the accounts. 


The following error is seen in the OrionWeb.log file:

ERROR SolarWinds.Orion.Web.LdapAuthentication - (null)  DirectoryOperationException: An operation error occurred.Response Error Message: 000004DC: LdapErr: DSID-0C090752, comment: In order to perform this operation a successful bind must be completed on the connection., data 0, v2580
    Distinguished Name: CN=xxx,OU=External Accounts,OU=Generic Accounts,OU=NAL,OU=NAL Migration,DC=SW ,DC=SWLab Trace:    at System.DirectoryServices.Protocols.LdapConnection.ConstructResponse(Int32 messageId, LdapOperation operation, ResultAll resultType, TimeSpan requestTimeOut, Boolean exceptionOnTimeOut)

  • NPM 12.0 and later
  • Orion Platform products version 2016 and later
  • SAM 6.2.4 and later


The issue is caused when the incorrect authentication type is selected when adding LDAP settings to the Orion Web Console. 

Resolution 1

  1. Log in to the Web Console using a local Orion account (non-domain account).
  2. Click Settings > All Settings > Advanced AD Settings.
  3. Change the Authentication Type to the correct method in order to Authenticate against the LDAP server.
