Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the issue when you are unable to install RabbitMQ while upgrading to Orion NPM 12 or other products running on Orion Platform 2016.1.

Please note that as of the time of this writing, RabbitMQ is not compatible with FIPS compliance.

Environment

Resolution

1. Download RabbitMQ installer from the following location and install:

  • Currently shipped with Orion Platform 2016.1 is version 3.5.6:

https://www.rabbitmq.com/releases/rabbitmq-server/v3.5.6/rabbitmq-server-3.5.6.exe

  • You can also install version 3.6.2 which is the latest at the time of writing this article (Jun 17, 2016):

Notes:

  • RabbitMQ should be installed in the Primary Polling Engine only.
  • RabbitMQ requires that you have Erlang OTP on your server, if you do not please visit this www.erlang.org/downloads (© 2016 Erlang available at www.erlang.org, obtained on October 17, 2016) and choose one of the OTP X.X Windows 32-bit Binary Files and install it on your server.
  • You must install RabbitMQ within Orion installation directory. The default location is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\RabbitMQ

2. Run the Configuration Wizard for Services.

3. After installation, verify that the Windows Service - RabbitMQ has been installed.

You can also see it in Orion Service Manager:
