Unable to import nodes: Failed to allocate a managed memory buffer of 33554432 bytes. The amount of available memory may be low

Overview

A user is unable to import nodes and the following error message is found in the Core.BusinessLayer log:

ERROR SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Common.CoreErrorHandler - (null)  Error occurred on Business Layer call. Type: System.InsufficientMemoryException

Message: 'Failed to allocate a managed memory buffer of 33554432 bytes. The amount of available memory may be low.'

All Orion Platform versions

Steps

NPM 11.5.3 and earlier

  1. Go to the Orion installation directory. The default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion.
  2. Open the SolarWinds.BusinessLayerHost.exe.config file.
  3. Locate and replace the following line:
    <add key="ForcePluginsInSeparateProcess" value="False"/>
    with
    <add key="ForcePluginsInSeparateProcess" value="True"/>
  4. Restart Orion services for this change to take effect.

Different Business Layer modules can now run in their own separate processes, increasing the total memory available for the module service.

NPM 12.0 to NPM 12.1

  1. Go to Orion Advanced Configuration (http://xx.xxx.xx.xx:8787/orion/admin...on/Global.aspx).
  2. Locate SolarWinds.BusinessLayerHost.BusinessLayerHostSettings.
  3. Enable ForcePluginsInSeparateProcess.

 

NPM 12.2 

  1. Go to Orion Advanced Configuration (http://xx.xxx.xx.xx:8787/orion/admin...on/Global.aspx).
  2. Locate SolarWinds.BusinessLayerHost.BusinessLayerHostSettings.
  3. Find ForcePluginsInSeparateProcess and change option from Auto to True 
  4. Click SAVE
