Issue

Hardware health settings are reverted on nodes polled through vCenter. Previously enabled sensors cannot be disabled.

Environment

This issue affects NPM 11.5 installations that monitor virtual machines through vCenter.

Cause

NPM cannot manage hardware health sensors when the nodes are polled through vCenter.

Resolution

Polling through the ESX server

Set the node to poll through the ESX server instead of vCenter.

  1. Log on to the web console as an administrator.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Virtualization Settings > VMware Settings.
  3. Select your ESX node using the checkboxes.
  4.  In the VMware grid toolbar, click Poll through, and select Poll ESX server directly.

Manually polling the ESX node

  1. After the Polling status changes to "Polling" for that ESX node, click on the ESX node to go to the ESX node details page.
  2. In the Management resource, click on Poll Now.

After the ESX node is polled through the ESX server, you can manage hardware health settings.
