Unable to add nodes through the Web Console

You have recently upgraded or did a fresh install of Solarwinds NPM/SAM products and unable to add new nodes / manage them via web console. There are multiple reasons and symptoms for the issue depending on type Solarwinds install environment you have i.e single poller / multiple poller / migration cum upgrade done or Server move.

1. For example if Orion Services not stable or module engine service not running you will see errors in log file BusinessLayerhostHost.log:


2. The poller this new node is being assigned to is down / experiencing performance problems as shown below



  • NPM


  • This issue occurs when the Core Business Layer plugin fails to start.
  • In some cases it was caused by duplicate entries for primary poller in Engines table after recent upgrade/migrate
  • From NPM 12.2 and higher this is due to different .Net version(s) installed on Main poller / Additional Poller / Additional Web server


  1. Go to the Start menu > All Programs > Solarwinds Orion.
  2. Click Advanced Features.
  3. Open the Orion Service manager.
  4. Click Shutdown Everything to stop all Orion services and Start Services to start the services.


If your environment is NPM 12.2 and higher and SAM 6.5 or higher please refer to failed to add nodes due to Versions
