Overview

If you are unable to add custom property values to the menu for existing custom properties, follow the directions below.

The following error message is seen in C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion\OrionWeb.log:

ERROR ASP.global_asax - Application_Error(9fc97ce985454c81adf422bf4fd708c0)
System.Web.HttpException (0x80004005): Request timed out.

Environment

NPM 11.5+

Cause

This is caused by an incorrect configuration of  the EditCustomNodeProperty.ascx file.

Resolution

Warnings:

  • Consult your System Administrator before performing the following procedure.
  • SolarWinds strongly recommends that you only edit the EditCustomNodeProperty.ascx file as instructed. Any additional modifications may result in system performance issues or may create an error state.
  • Save a copy of the original EditCustomNodeProperty.ascx file to your local drive as a backup file, in case you need to roll back later.

  1. Ensure you have installed Orion Core 2015.1.2 HotFix 6. (Applied just for NPM 11.5.2)
  2. Perform the following workaround:
    1. On your Primary server (website) find file EditCustomNodeProperty.ascx usually located in c:\inetpub\SolarWinds\Orion\NetPerfMon\Resources\Misc\
    2. Open the file in any text editor.
    3. Locate row (row number ~89 approximately), or search for this text:

      "CustomPropertyMgr.SetCustomProp("Nodes", this.CustomProperty, this.ThisNode.NodeID, value);"

    4. Change the text Nodes, (first parameter for the method SetCustomProp) to NodesCustomProperties.
    5. Save and close file
    6. Perform an IIS reset: Start > Run > CMD > iisreset.
  3. If you are still unable to add values to the custom property drop-down list, follow the steps in this article
