Triggered alerts are not sending emails

Overview

An alert has triggered and is shown in the event log but no email notification(s) sent. Alert service log shows the following SMTP connection error:
exception stack: --> The transport failed to connect to the server

Environment

All Orion Platform versions

Cause 

Orion cannot establish connection to the SMTP server.

Resolution

  1. Test SMTP connection using following tool: (From the Solarwinds Orion Main Poller Server)
    C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Common\SWEmailNotify.exe
  2. If you are getting the following error, investigate the connection between the Orion and the SMTP server:
    connection forcible refused
