Trigger Action: Set Custom Status is not working

Updated October 6, 2016

The user has assigned a custom device poller to a node and configured an alert based on this custom poller and included in the alert is a trigger action to update the node status to a custom setting. This article discusses the following error that displays when testing the alert:
Execution of CustomStatus action with Entity type - Orion.NPM.CustomPollerAssignmentOnNode failed. CustomStatus alerting action works only with Orion.Nodes.

  • Orion Platform 2012 and later
  • NPM 10.4.1 and later
  • SAM 6.0 and later

Altering the Nodes status via an alert action can only be performed by node-related trigger conditions. For example, "I want to alert on" must be configured for "Node", not "Custom Node Poller".

Note: Standardizing as well as adding additional flexibility for how object status is calculated being considered for a future release.

  • As this feature is not readily included in our product we invite you to open and vote on our Community Forums in THWACK as this will help our Engineering Project Managers gauge how important implementing such an idea would be for future releases.
  • You can post Feature Requests on THWACK.
