Trap Service is not collecting

Overview

You are using Traps Service, but information about traps is not being collected. The following error can be found in the TrapsService log:

ERROR Solarwinds.Orion.Core.Collector.MessageSender.MessageSender'1 -
Data send Failed.
System.AggregateException: One or more errors occurred. --->
System.InvalidOperationException: There was an error generating the XML document.

Environment

  • NPM 11.5.3 and older

Cause

Traps Service is not able to keep up with number of traps coming in.

Resolution

By default, Traps Service uses  the Collector to process incoming traps, which may not be efficient. To revert back to the "old" engine, complete the following steps:

  1. Navigate to c:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion (default installation path).
  2. Locate the file SWTrapService.exe.config.
  3. Locate <add key="UseCollectorEndpoint" value="True"/>.
  4. Change True to False.
  5. Save the file.
  6. Load Orion Service Manager found under Start > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features.
  7. Locate the Trap Service and restart it.
