Websites in IIS, like the Orion Web Console, may load slowly if your IIS server is processing excessive connections to external websites.

To diagnose and fix connections your IIS server is making externally:

  1. Download Process Monitor, a Windows process monitoring tool from Windows Sysinternals.
  2. Run Process Monitor while you are completing an installation of your SolarWinds product.
  3. Search the Process Monitor trace for any TCP Reconnects or other indications of attempted connections to external websites (e.g.
Note: w3wp.exe is one process that might attempt TCP connections.
  4. If you find any attempted connections to an external website, you have the following options to resolve the excessive connections issue:
    1. Use the WinHTTP Proxy Configuration Utility to confirm that all proxy servers, if any are used, are configured correctly for IIS. For more information, see "Using the WinHTTP Proxy Configuration Utility".
    2. Disable Certificate Revocation Checking, as follows:
      1. Click Start > Control Panel.
      2. Click Internet Options.
      3. On the Advanced tab, in the Security group, clear Check for server certificate revocation, and then click OK.
Note: You may need to restart your web browser.
    3. If it is not already in the hosts file of your IIS server, add the website to which your IIS server is atteptimg to connect to the hosts
    4. Edit the web.config file, as follows:
      1. Open C:\inetpub\SolarWinds\web.config in a text editor.
      2. In the <runtime/> tags, add the following:
        <generatepublisherevidence enabled="false"/>
    5. Confirm that any and all firewalls allow connections to the indicated external website.

You may also need to re-add the server to the domain.  The Orion server may have been improperly registered on the domain controller, or the entry may be corrupted. This causes the Web Console to slow down because the server has to establish a connection from the Web Console to other SolarWinds services using Windows Security Infrastructure.

This article applies to all SolarWinds products that use the Orion Web Console.
