Overview

The Web Based alerting action of sending a POST request can be difficult to verify depending on access to the remote system receiving the POST request. When building POST requests into an alert with alert macros, some of the options to review the data in the POST request are to run packet capture or send the POST request to a web server, which will display the POST details.

Environment

NPM 11.5.2 and earlier

Cause

The POST requests received by a third party may not reveal the details of the POST request received.

Resolution

  1. Set up the alert and the POST action.
  2. Use the Simulate option to test the POST action.
  3. If the POST request is received by the third party but the content is not correct, adjust the POST message body text.
  4. If the post request does not appear to have been received, consider using a site which displaya the content of a POST request or take a packet capture and again simulate the test.
  5. Refine the POST content and the POST action as needed based on the results of the tests and the verification in step 4 until the POST request has the needed data.
