Syslogs do not reflect in NPM web console

Updated September 28, 2016

Syslogs do not reflect in the NPM web console after enabling the ACL on a firewall.

All NPM versions

The issue is caused by a conflicting configuration on the network devices that disables the access list logging from being sent to SolarWinds.

Below is the command for the firewall to allow it to send the access list syslog messages to SolarWinds. This depends on the vendor that makes the device.

logging message 106023

If you are using Wireshark to view if Syslog messages are making it into the server and you run into an issue with Wireshark here are some tips to fix this if it is not working:

a. Stop all Orion services.

b. Delete the wpcap.dll and packet.dll files from C:/windows/System32,

c. Perform the install as an administrator.

The NPF driver for Wireshark will not run during the install unless the Orion services are stopped.
