Switch nodes to agent polling by bulk

Overview

This article describes how to switch nodes that are not using an agent to poll by bulk. To start using the agent, it is presumed that it is already deployed on the nodes for some other purpose like QoE or SAM.

Environment

  • NPM 11.5 and later (including v12)
  • SAM 6.2 and later

Steps

  1. Go to Settings > Manage Nodes, and then select the polling method if the nodes to be switched are all using the same current polling method, such as all nodes using WMI.
  2. Click WMI from the list of polling types to display the nodes on the right pane.
  3. Click the top checkbox to select all the nodes, and then click the red link to select the nodes that are not displayed on the first page of the results.
  4. Click Edit Properties.
  5. Select the polling method, and then select the agent radio button.
  6. Enter the credentials, and then click Submit.

For NPM versions earlier than 12.x, there is no indication that an agent is installed. For NPM 12.x and later versions, the following message is displayed to indicate that an agent software is already installed before you change a polling method:

Agent software is installed on [server name].
