WebinarUpcoming Webinar: Should I Move My Database to the Cloud?

So you’ve been running an on-premises SQL Server® for a while now. Maybe you’ve moved it from bare metal to a VM, and have seen some positive benefits. But, do you want to see more? If you said “YES!”, then this session is for you, as James Serra will review the many benefits that can be gained by moving your on-prem SQL Server to an Azure® VM (IaaS). He’ll also talk about the many hybrid approaches, so you can gradually move to the cloud. If you are interested in cost savings, additional features, ease of use, quick scaling, improved reliability, and ending the days of upgrading hardware, this is the session for you.

Some of the features of the polling engine not working after upgrade

Issue:

After upgrading NPM to 10.5 the following functionalities are not working on the Primary and Additional Polling Engines:

  • Poll Now (nodes from APE)
  • List Resources (nodes from APE)
  • Weblauncher (on APE)
  • SWQL Studio on both servers targeting remote server
  • Installation of SAM 5.0.2 (on APE)

Cause:

The root cause of it was the fact that primary server was set with daylight saving time while secondary wasn't. So in reality the ZULU time on primary was 1 hour ahead.

Say for example:

  • request creation time - 15:25 (primary, where request was originating from)
  • current time - 14:26 (secondary, where request was targeted)

Resolution:

  • After adjusting time settings, all features previously ending with errors (listed above) started to work perfectly.
  • In multi-polling engine environments all servers have to be set up with correct time with respect to Zulu time, not only having correct clock.
  • Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) zone is sometimes denoted by the letter Z. Since the NATO phonetic alphabet word for Z is "Zulu", UTC is sometimes known as Zulu time.
