This article provides steps to set custom Alert thresholds for Volumes.

The out-of-the-box Alert included within Orion for Volumes uses a blanket threshold value for all volumes.

For example: VolumePercentAvailable is less than 5.

As some volumes can have a higher priority than others, it is sometimes desired to set different Alert thresholds for different Volumes.  To accomplish this, one can setup different Alerts for the different Volumes, however, this can cumbersome and complicated to setup.

This article explains how to accomplish the same thing using one single Alert and a Volume Custom Property.

All Orion Modules

Create a Volume Custom Property:

1. Go to Settings > Manage Custom Properties.

2. Click Add Custom Property.

3. Set the Create a new Custom Property based on the selected object type to Volume.

4. Click Next.

5. Set the Property Name as VolumePercentFreeThreshold and check the option for Value must be specified.

6. Click Next.

7. Select the Volumes that need a specific threshold and enter the threshold value.

8. Repeat Step 7 until all Volumes have been assigned their custom thresholds.

9. Click Submit.

Set the Alert to use this CustomProperty:

1. Go to Settings > Manage Alerts.

2. Search for Volume.

3. Select Alert me when the free space of a volume is less than 5%  Alert and click Edit Alert.

4. Click Trigger Conditions.

5. Replace the following Single Value Comparison Condition:

  • Volume VolumePercentAvailable is less than 5

With the following Double Value Comparison

  • Volume VolumePercentAvailable is less than Volume VolumePercentFreeThreshold

6. Click Next.

7. Click  Summary.

8. Click Submit.

Note: Similar method can be done using Percent Used instead of Volume Percent Available.
