Server Error Message When Starting the Orion Server

Overview

When you start your Orion server, the following error message appears:

Server error in ‘/’ Application

Additionally, the Core.BusinessLayer.log file includes the following error message:

System.Messaging.MessageQueueException (0x80004005): Access to Message Queuing system is denied.

Environment

  • NPM 10.1.x and later

Cause 

Problematic MSMQ access rights on the Orion server.

Resolution

Correct the MSMQ access rights by removing and then reinstalling the Message Queuing feature on your Orion server running Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 or Windows Server 2012.

Orion Servers Running Windows Server 2008

Message Queuing is removed from the Orion server.

When completed, the Message Queuing feature is installed on your Orion server.

  1. Log in to the Orion server as an administrator.
  2. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.
  3. Stop all Orion Services.
  4. Remove the Message Queuing feature.
    1. Click Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Server Manager.
    2. Select Features and click Remove Features.
    3. Uncheck Message Queuing and click Next.
    4. Click Remove.
    5. When prompted, click Close.
  5. Restart the Orion server.
  6. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.
  7. Stop all Orion Services.
  8. Install the Message Queuing feature.
    1. Click Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Server Manager.
    2. Select Features > Add Features.
    3. Select Message Queuing and click Next.
    4. When prompted, click Next.
    5. When prompted, click Install.
    6. When prompted, click Close.
  9. Start all Orion Services.

Orion Servers Running Windows Server 2012

When completed, the Message Queuing feature is removed from the system. 

When completed, the Message Queuing feature is installed on your Orion server.  

  1. Log in to the Orion server as an administrator.
  2. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.
  3. Stop all Orion Services.
  4. Remove the Message Queuing feature.
    1. Click Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Server Manager.
    2. Select Local Server.
    3. Under Tasks for Roles and Features, click Remove Roles and Features.
    4. In the Remove Features screen, uncheck Message Queuing and click Next.
    5. Click Remove.
    6. When prompted, click Close.
  5. Restart the Orion server.
  6. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.
  7. Stop all Orion Services.
  8. Reinstall the Message Queuing feature.
    1. Click Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Server Manager.
    2. Select Local Server.
    3. Under Tasks for Roles and Features, click Add Roles and Features.
    4. In the Select Features screen, select Message Queuing and click Next.
    5. When prompted, click Install.
    6. When prompted, click Close.
  9. Start all Orion Services.
