Overview

This article provides a workaround and a permanent resolution when the following error is encountered:

SQL Express database is over xx% full

Environment

All Orion Core products that use the SQL Server Express database

Cause 

SQL Server Express databases are limited in size:

  • SQL Server Express 2008 R2 and higher: 10 GB
  • SQL Server Express versions earlier than 2008 R2: 4 GB

Resolution

  1. Create a back up of the database.
  2. Restore the database to a Full Standard/Enterprise SQL Server.
  3. Run the Configuration Wizard and point to the new SQL Server.

As a workaround, create some space in your SolarWinds database by deleting unnecessary objects. You can remove your Traps and Syslog to gain space.
