SMTP email test fails for Exchange Server

When adding SMTP servers in the Orion Web Console settings, you are unable to send a test email to make sure that communication is established.

On the Exchange server configuration, Anonymous access is not enabled. 


  1. Run Wireshark with filter ip.addr == <IP> && tcp.port == 25.
  2. Check the packet data for authentication errors.
  3. Select Anonymous access to allow email authentication. 
  4. Check Microsoft Exchange documentation from Microsoft (© 2016 Microsoft, available at, obtained on December 14, 2016.) to locate the option based on version installed for Exchange.
