Overview

This article provides information on addressing the following error which can be seen in different log files across Orion Platform:

 

COMException (0x80040213): The transport failed to connect to the server

Environment

All Orion Platform version

Cause 

This error (exception) is thrown when the SMTP Server within Orion is configured to use authentication while the actual SMTP server does not require authentication.

Resolution

Disable authentication in SMTP configuration:

  1. Log in to the Orion Web Console.
  2. Go to Settings > Alerts & Reports > Manage SMTP Settings.
  3. Select relevant SMTP server.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Clear the This SMTP server requires authentication option
  6. Click Save.

Make sure there are no "Spaces" in the SMTP Hostname or IP Address field.
