SFTP uses weak SSH cipher

Table of contents

Updated November 25, 2016

Overview

This article provides brief information on the issue where SFTP (Free Tools) uses a weak SSH cipher.

Environment

All Orion deployment with SFTP Free Tool installed on it

Detail

SolarWinds Development team has confirmed that NPM will handle the security issue by adding support for FIPS mode. This will be addressed in the next release of NPM (12.1).

Once FIPS mode is enabled for environment and for Orion through Orion FIPS Manager, only strong cipher suites will be used (it means restriction for using DES, RC4 ciphers and similar weak cipher suites) .
