Run the Orion Configuration wizard

The Configuration wizard refreshes files on the web server and performs checks on the structure of your database. Running the wizard may help you troubleshoot configuration issues of the website, database, or services.

For example, run the wizard after upgrades, or after rebuilding the website.

Steps to run Configuration wizard

Before you run the Configuration wizard, close all open applications.
When running the Configuration wizard on an Additional Polling Engine or an Additional Web Server, some steps might be skipped.

  1. Log in to the Orion Server as a Windows Local Administrator.
  2. Start the Configuration wizard in SolarWinds Orion > Configuration and Auto-Discovery program folder.
  3. Select one or more components to be repaired and click Next.
    When in doubt, select all options. Note that configuring the website might take a few minutes.
  4. On Database Settings, verify that the correct the SQL Server and authentication method are selected. For SQL Server Authentication, check that System Administrator credentials of the SQL server are used, and click Next.

    Use SQL Server Authentication to ensure that the Orion Platform server can always access the database, even when hosted remotely on a separate server.


  5. On the next Database Settings screen, verify that the correct database is selected.


  6. On Database Account, make sure a valid account and password for an existing account is used, and click Next. You can also create an account. This account is used by the polling engine and by the Orion Web Console to access the database.


  7. On Website Settings, make sure correct IP address, port, and location for the Orion Website are used, and click Next.

  8. If prompted to use the existing website, click Yes,
  9. Review the list of services to be repaired, and click Next.
  10. When completed, click Finish to launch the Orion Web Console.

The Configuration wizard refreshed files on the web server and performed checks on the structure of your database. If your issues persist, look for troubleshooting options at SolarWinds Customer Success Center or on THWACK.
