Run-time error 372: Failed to load control 'VSPrinter' from VsView8.ocx

Overview

The following error is displayed when viewing a report in the Orion Report Writer:

Run-time error 372: Failed to load control 'VSPrinter' from VsView8.ocx. Your version of VsView8.ocx may be outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provided with your application.

 

Environment

All Orion Platform versions

Cause 

This issue can be caused by any of the following:

  • Running the configuration wizard with insufficient permissions
  • Failed upgrades
  • Antivirus locking files
  • Corrupted OCX files (Found in Vol:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SolarWinds)

Resolution

  1. Log in to the SolarWinds server as a local administrator (do not use a domain account).
  2. Set the antivirus permissions.
  3. Go to Vol:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SolarWinds and move the vsprinter.ocx file to another location such as your desktop.
  4. Repair the Orion Core Services.
  5. Allow the wizard to complete.

The report should open in Report Writer without any errors.
