Report schedules fail and unable to export PDF or XLS reports

Overview

All report schedules fail including the manual run of any report and export to all types of PDF or XLS. The actions logs has the error message:

 

WARN  SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Actions.Utility.Smtp.SmtpServerConnectionChecker - Failed to get host entry smtp.hostname port 25. The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found

Environment

NPM 11.X Web Based Reports and Scheduler

Cause 

The SMTP settings are incorrect or the firewall blocks port 25 SMTP traffic.

Resolution

Resolution #1:

  1. In the Web Console, go to Settings > Manage SMTP servers.
  2. Check with your exchange administrator that the settings you have entered are correct.

 

Resolution #2:

Enable "Forms" authentication in IIS along with Windows authentication.  This is not a supported setup by IIS.  When you log in initially, you will be presented with the SolarWinds log in page instead of a Windows pass through.  After that, you will be automatically logged in. 

 

Resolution #3:

Ensure there is no Anti-virus or security solution on the SMTP Server itself that can be blocking attachments or HTML content in E-mails.
