Report Writer is unable to display more than 10,000 records

Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the issue when the Report Writer cannot display more than 10,000 records.

Environment

All NPM versions

Cause

The issue occurs when the SQL Query used to create the report only selects the top 10,000 matching records.

Resolution

Change the limit range for the query.

  1. Open the Report Writer.

  2. In the title bar, click Report > Show SQL

  3. Open the SQL tab.

    1.  Note: The current query should reflect as Select top 10000.

  4. Copy the query in a text editor.

  5. Locate the following line:  select top 10000

  6. Change query to a higher value select top 30000 or to it to select ALL.

    1. Note: Changing to select all might be unwise if its a large table, it would put pressure on SQL Server.

  7. In the Report Writer, click New > AdvancedSQL

  8. Paste the updated query and then click Execute SQL Query.

  9. The report should now display all records matching. Regardless of the 10,000 limit in the SolarWinds database.
