Rebuild the Orion Web Console using basic repair

Overview

This article describes the steps in rebuilding the Orion Web Console using the basic repair option.

Steps

Notes:

  • Consult your system administrator before performing the following steps. 
  • You will need to replace any custom logos after performing the repair.

Check the permissions on your machine

  1. Log off of the computer and log back in as a local administrator using the computer name as the domain.
  2. Right-click Start and select Explore All Users.
    Note: This step is crucial as it establishes the proper privilege level for installing components.
  3. Check that SOLARWINDS_WEBSITE and IUSR_ accounts both have local administrator rights and full control rights to C:\InetPub\Solarwinds\ and all subfolders.

Note: If you are troubleshooting a permissions issue, add the account NETWORK SERVICE to C:\InetPub\Solarwinds\ and assign the following permissions:

  • Read & Execute
  • List Folder Contents
  • Read

Remove IIS Web Services

  1. Right-click My Computer and select Manage.
  2. Expand Services and Applications > Internet Information (IIS) Manager > Web Sites.
  3. Right-click SolarWinds NetPerfMon and select Stop to stop the Web site.
  4. Right-click SolarWinds NetPerfMon and select Delete to remove it from IIS. 

Remove COM+ applications

  1. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Component Services > Computers.
  2. Open My Computer and open Com + Applications.
  3. Delete Solarwinds Orion NPM. 

Remove the Web site directory

  • Orion: Go to C:\Inetpub\ and delete the SolarWinds folder.
  • NCM: Go to C:\Inetpub\ and delete the SolarWindsNCM folder.
  • DPA: Go to C:\Inetpub\ and delete the SolarWindsDPA folder

Restore the Web site

  1. Go to Start > Programs > SolarWinds Orion.
  2. Launch the Configuration Wizard.
  3. Select Website.
  4. Accept all default values to complete the Wizard.
