This article provides information about providing external access to the Orion Web Console through a proxy (such as Apache Tomcat running on Unix/Linux).

  • All Orion Platform versions
  • Apache 2.2 through 2.4 with mod_proxy

The following steps show how to use reverse proxy technique and provide access to the Orion Web Console through Apache.

  1. Ensure that the Apache server has the mod_proxy compiled and installed.
  2. Open the httpd.conf file in Notepad.
  3. Verify if the following code exists in the file:
    LoadModule proxy_module libexec/apache24/

Note: Depending on the distribution location of your life, ensure that you use the correct path.

  4. Verify that the host alias is configured in the domain for the IP address assigned to the host where Apache is running (such as nsm-02).

Use the following configuration for the virtual host. In this example, the Apache server is set to respond to requests on port 80. Also, Orion Web Console is set to operate on port 80. These settings can be changed and adjusted in above configuration.

    <VirtualHost            IP-OF-APACHE:80>
        ServerName nms-02.DOMAIN
        ServerAlias nms-02
        ServerAdmin web-admin@DOMAIN
        # Reverse Proxy #
        ProxyRequests Off
        ProxyVia Off
        ProxyPreserveHost On
        ProxyPass / http://IP-OF-ORION:80/
        ProxyPassReverse / http://IP-OF-ORION:80/

IP-OF-APACHE - IP address of server hosting Apache

IP-OF-ORION - IP address of Orion server

DOMAIN - domain configured on the system
