Overview

This article describes the issue when Orion module engine crashes on both Primary and APE every 5 to 10 minutes with an error message:

Faulting Application name Solarwinds.BusinessLayerHost.exe, version 2015.1.25300.8179
Faulting Module name KERNELBASE.dll

Environment

NPM version 11.5.2

Cause

This issue occurs when the VC++ 2013 Redistributable package is not installed properly because the package installation is blocked by an Antivirus software. This causes the Agent Management Business Layer plugin to crash during startup

In this case, the missing DLL files were the following:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcp120.dll - None
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr120.dll - None

Resolution

1. Check BusinessLayerHost log for this error:

ERROR: SolarwindsBusinessLayerHost.PluginInstanceSeparateProcess -- Intance C:\Program FIles (86x)\Solarwinds\Orion\AgentManagement\Solarwinds.AgentManagement.ServiceCore.dll.config - ProcessID: 19080 doesn't exist anymore

2. Check if the following DLL and Visual C++ files are installed within Orion server:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcp120.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcp120_clr0400.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr120.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr120_clr0400.dll

The two are not present in Orion serve both in main poller and APE:
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcp120.dll - None
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr120.dll - None

The C++ version above are installed in Orion server.

3. Disable or stop any antivirus or scanning software.

4.  Install the latest VC++ 2013 Redistributable, both 32 bit and 64 bit from this link
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=40784

5.  Restart Orion services and verify all is working both in the main poller and APE.
