Orion Website Error: An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from the other party

Overview

The following error appears on the Orion Web Console:

Orion Website Error

The Orion website is currently unable to display this page. Orion polling and alerting services often continue running, though this page cannot be displayed. Please take the following steps to attempt to alleviate the issue:

  1. Verify that the time is correct on the poller returning the error.
  2. Log in to the website again and navigate to another Orion page, allowing you to isolate the error to this page.
  3. Ensure the Orion services are still running.
  4. Check that your SQL Server is still running and accessible.

Please notify SolarWinds of this error. We will address and help you fix the issue.

Your specific error is:

An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from the other party. See the inner FaultException for the fault code and detail.

Environment

NPM 10.1 and later

Cause

This error occurs when the Web Console user does not have access to the local SolarWinds folder.

Note: By default, on Windows Server 2003, this folder is located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\, and on Windows Server 2008, it is located in C:\ProgramData\

Resolution

  1. Log in to your SolarWinds Server as a local administrator. 
    Note: Do not use a domain account, as the Permission Checker will fail to resolve required permissions.
  2. Run the Orion Permission Checker (OrionPermissionChecker.exe), located, by default, in C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\
  3. Click Check.
  4. After the check completes, click Repair.
  5. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.
  6. Click SolarWinds Information Service and then click Stop.
    Note: Do not stop SolarWinds Orion Information Service v1.
  7. After the SolarWinds Information Service has stopped, click SolarWinds Information Service, and then click Start.
  8. Close the Orion Service Manager.
  9. For SolarWinds Server running on Windows Server 2003:

    1. Click Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

    2. Click + to expand your Local Computer.

    3. Right-click Application Pools and then click Refresh.

  10. For SolarWinds Server running on Windows Server 2008:

    1. Click Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Server Manager.

    2. Click + to expand Roles > Web Server (IIS), and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

    3. Click + to expand your Local Computer.

    4. Right-click Application Pools and then click Refresh.
