Fixed issues

This hotfix addresses the following issues:

  • A CPU utilization issue on multi-core nodes running Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 R2 when using WMI or the agent polling method.

Environment

Installations running Orion Platform 2016.2, including the following products:

  • NPM 12.0.1
  • SAM 6.3
  • NCM 7.5.1
  • SRM 6.3
  • Patch Manager 2.1.3
  • VNQM: 4.2.4

Notes

  • Do not apply this hotfix unless instructed by SolarWinds Support to apply it.
  • Install this hotfix on each SolarWinds polling engine and Orion agent.
  • When you choose the Agent polling method, ensure that the hotfix is applied to each newly-deployed or re-deployed agent.

Installation instructions

  1. Download the hotfix from the Customer Portal.

  2. Install the hotfix on the polling engine.

    1. Extract all files from the ZIP archive containing the hotfix and this readme.
    2. Open the Orion Service Manager and stop all Orion services.
    3. Navigate to the following directory:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion
    4.  Back up the following file to a separate location:
      SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Pollers.dll
    5. Copy the hotfix file to the Orion directory, overwriting the existing file.
    6. Start all Orion services.
      The hotfix is installed on the SolarWinds polling engine.
  3. Install the hotfix on each computer running the Orion agent.

    1.  Extract all files from the ZIP archive containing the hotfix and this readme.
    2.  Open the Services Snap-In and stop the SolarWinds Agent service.
    3.  Navigate to the following directory:
        C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Agent\Plugins\Core
    4. Back up the following file to a separate location:
      SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Pollers.dll
    5. Copy the hotfix file to the Orion directory, overwriting the existing file.
    6. Start SolarWinds Agent service
      The hotfix is installed on the SolarWinds Agent.
  4. Assign the pollers.
    1. Run "assign poller.sql" on the SolarWinds database (the default database is SolarWindsOrion). When you are finished, the new SolarWinds poller is assigned to the nodes in the SolarWinds database.    

Uninstallation instructions

 

  1. Uninstall the hotfix from the polling engine.
    1. Open the Orion Service Manager and stop all Orion services.
    2. Locate your backup files.
    3. Navigate to the following directory:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion
    4. Copy the backup file to the Orion directory, overwriting the existing file.     
      The hotfix is uninstalled from the SolarWinds poller. 
  2. Uninstall the hotfix from each computer running the Orion agent.
    1. Open the Services Snap-In and stop SolarWinds Agent service.
    2. Locate your backup files.
    3. Navigate to the following directory:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Agent\Plugins\Core
    4. Copy the backup file to the Orion directory, overwriting the existing file.
  3. Revert the pollers.
    1. Run "revert poller.sql" on the SolarWinds database (the default database is SolarWindsOrion). When you are finished, the default poller is assigned to the SolarWinds database.
