Orion Database appears offline

Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the issue when the user is unable to access the Orion Database. 

The following error appears: 

Error: Alter failed for Database 'SolarWindsOrion'.
Database 'SolarWindsOrion' cannot be opened due to inaccessible files or insufficient memory or disk space'

Environment

All NPM versions

Resolution

Note: Create a backup of your database before proceeding with the following steps.

1. Open SQL Management Studio and log in with administrative privileges.

2. The queries below should set the database to EMERGENCY and single user mode. You have to run the query one at a time and check for results.

EXEC sp_resetstatus 'SolarWindsOrion'
ALTER DATABASE SolarWindsOrion SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
DBCC Check ('SolarWindsOrion', REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS)

 

ALTER DATABASE SolarWindsOrion SET MULTI_USER
ALTER DATABASE SolarWindsOrion SET SINGLE_USER
DBCC CheckDB ('SolarWindsOrion', REPAIR_REBUILD)
ALTER DATABASE SolarWindsOrion SET MULTI_USER

This should set the database back to normal and you can move forward in truncating tables that have the most disk space like "Syslog, Traps or TrapVarbinds".

3. Run the database maintenance

Cause

The issue occurs when the SQL server disk space is full or the SQL database is either locked or offline.
