Overview

The Node Details page in Orion shows the Machine Type for D-LINK DVG-N5412SP is Unknown.

Environment

  • All NPM versions
  • D-LINK DVG-N5412SP

Cause

This occurs when the SysObjectOID is incorrectly provided or is not detected through Orion discovery.

For example:

1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2 - sysObjectID

Generated from OBJECT-TYPE definition found in rfc1213-mib2.asn1

OID value: 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2

OID description:

sysObjectID OBJECT-TYPE
              SYNTAX  OBJECT IDENTIFIER
              ACCESS  read-only
              STATUS  mandatory
              DESCRIPTION
                      "The vendor's authoritative identification of the
                      network management subsystem contained in the
                      entity. This value is allocated within the SMI
                      enterprises subtree (1.3.6.1.4.1) and provides an
                      easy and unambiguous means for determining `what
                      kind of box' is being managed. For example, if
                      vendor `Flintstones, Inc.' was assigned the
                      subtree 1.3.6.1.4.1.4242, it could assign the
                      identifier 1.3.6.1.4.1.4242.1.1 to its `Fred
                      Router'."
              ::= { system 2 }

.1.3.6.1.2.1.1.9.1.2.1 = OID: 1.3.6.1.6.3.1

Resolution

It is possible to create a Node details poller for these devices. However, the correct OID (from device SNMPWALK) holding the correct SysObjectOID for this device must be determined.

Refer to Change device details in the Device Studio.

Alternatively, contact vendor to correct the MIBs within the device so it can be correctly detected.
