No data showing for interfaces in NPM

Updated April 13th, 2016

Overview

Data for interfaces are missing on the Orion Web Console.

Environment

  • NPM 11.5.3 and earlier

Cause

If a device does not provide us with this string of OIDs (1.3.6.1.2.1), then data or information will not be available on the Web Console.

To allow us to receive information from your device you would need to contact the vendor of your device and check with them if a reconfiguration is possible so that it will provide data with 1.3.6.1.2.1 OIDs and not only device specific OIDs.

Resolution

  1. Run an SNMP walk on the device that does not provide information.
  2. Investigate the SNMP walk and check if the device provides us with OIDs starting with 1.3.6.1.2.1.
  3. If the device does not provide the said OIDs, contact the device vendor and ask them if the device can be reconfigured to provide these OIDs.
  4. Data should be available once reconfigured.

Note: In cases where the device is showing data on the Web Console after vendor OIDs (for example, 1.0.8802.1.1.1.1.1.1), OID 1.3.6.1.2.1 is the only OID that can be processed.
