Network Sonar Discovery exception

Overview

This articles provides steps to resolve an issue where Network Sonar Discovery fails with the following message:

Unexpected Website Error:

The type initializer for 'SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Web.Discovery.ResultsWorkflowHelper' threw an exception.

Environment

All Orion Platform products

Cause

The discovery profile references a polling engine (Engine ID) that is no longer available and was removed from your Orion Platform product.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the Orion Web Console as an Administrator.
  2. Open the Network Sonar Discovery page. 
    In NPM 12.0 and later, click Settings > Network Discovery.
  3. Select the discovery profile that failed and click Edit. Discovery profiles with issues are marked with an exclamation mark.
  4. Select an existing Polling Engine and save the profile.AssignDifferentPEtoDiscoveryProfile.PNG

The discovery runs without issues now.
