Fixed issues

This hotfix improves the Active Directory Groups website login, and introduces configurability of used authentication and Group Membership evaluation methods to address the following issue:

  • Users are unable to log in to the Orion Web Console using an Active Directory Group account.

Environment

NPM 10.7

Install the hotfix

  1. Stop all Orion Services.
  2. Run the NPM-v10.7.0-HotFix8.exe file on this server to extract the hotfix archive.

  3. Find and back up the following files:

    • SolarWinds.Data.Providers.Orion.dll

    • SolarWinds.Data.Providers.Orion.v3.dll 

      Note: The default location is c:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Information Service\3.0\.

  4. Replace the files in Step 3 with the files extracted from the hotfix.

  5. Back up and replace the .pdb files.

  6. Find and back up the OrionWeb.dll file. The default location is c:\inetpub\SolarWinds\bin.

  7. Replace OrionWeb.dll with the file extracted from the hotfix.

  8. Find and back up the web.config file. The default location is c:\inetpub\SolarWinds\.

  9. Open the web.config file and locate the following section:
        <add key="LogonFallback" value="true" /> <!-- set to "true" to allow LogonUser fallback if Interactive type fails -->
        <add key="LogonUserType" value="NetworkCleartext" /> <!-- used if LogonFallback is true, this is the default value -->
        <add key="LogonProvider" value="Default" /> <!-- used if LogonFallback is true, this is the default value -->

  10. Replace the section with the following:

        <add key="LogonUserType" value="Interactive" /> <!-- Interactive is the default value used for LogonUser API in Orion from the beginning -->
        <add key="LogonProvider" value="Default" /> <!-- Default is the default value used for LogonUser API -->
        <add key="LogonFallback" value="true" /> <!-- set to "true" to allow fallback if the LogonUserType/LogonProvider-based logon fails -->
        <add key="LogonFallbackUserType" value="NetworkCleartext" /> <!-- NetworkCleartext is the default fallback LogonUser logon type  -->
        <add key="LogonFallbackProvider" value="Default" /> <!-- Default is the default value used for LogonUser API -->
        <add key="UseMachineContext" value="true" /> <!-- probe the current Machine Principal Context for group membership -->
        <add key="UseDirectoryQuery" value="true" /> <!-- probe the users Active Directory controller for group membership -->
        <add key="UseDomainContext" value="true" /> <!-- probe the users Domain Principal Context for group membership -->
        <add key="ImpersonateHost" value="false" /> <!-- uses host process identity for group membership probing -->

  11. Save the web.config file.

  12. Start the Orion services.

Uninstall the hotfix

  1. Stop all Orion services.
  2. Replace the following files with their backups:
    • SolarWinds.Data.Providers.Orion.dll
      Default location: c:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Information Service\3.0\
    • SolarWinds.Data.Providers.Orion.v3.dll
      Default location: c:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Information Service\3.0\
    • OrionWeb.dll
      Default location: c:\inetpub\SolarWinds\bin
    • web.config
      Default location: c:\inetpub\SolarWinds\
  3. Restart Orion services.
