Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the following Configuration Wizard errors:

  • Failure importing old maps
  • Failure importing sample map

Environment

NPM version 9.5.1 or later

Cause

This issue might be encountered when a domain account is used to create a new user for the Orion database.
Domain accounts are not supported for use with the Orion database.
The local SQL Server
sa account is required to create new databases and database users.

Resolution

Workaround:

  • If Config Wizard is slow to complete then the workaround is to skip past this is the following:
    • Kill IMPORTMAPBatch.exe in Task manager
    • Note you may have to kill this executable twice, once for SAMPLE MAPS and once for OLD Maps.
    • image.png

  • If the CW finishes with an "Failure to import ... maps" its due to CW not getting to complete the Import maps tasks.
    • This error occurs due to the old code and the sample maps are already in the system.
    • You can dismiss the error message as this should in no way affect the installation, however, you will need to navigate the website to make sure everything is operational with no errors.

Solution:

  1. Close, and then restart the Configuration Wizard (Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Configuration and Auto-Discovery > Configuration Wizard).
  2. Check Database, and then click Next.
  3. Select the SQL Server hosting your Orion database, and then select Use SQL Server Authentication.
  4. Provide sa as your Login, and then provide the corresponding Password (if you do not know the password please contact your DBA), and then click Next.
  5. Select Create a new account, and then provide a name for your New Account.
  6. Provide and confirm an appropriate account Password, and then click Next.
  7. Click Next to start configuration of your Orion database.
  8. Click Finish to complete the Configuration Wizard.

If the issue persists, you could test is this a Database data issue by trying a test blank DB and see does that complete without issue. Same as above but after Step 4:

  • Select Create a new database, and then provide a name for your New Database, and then click Next.
  • Afterwards, you will need to repoint to production DB, but as that's having issues like above, suggest you contact support by creating a ticket and upload diagnostics.
