Overview

The is no Interface data being stored after upgrading from NPM 10.7 to 11.5.3.

In the SolarwindsDiagnostics 20160321 Main SO-UK-POLLER1.zip\Collector\Logs\Collector.BusinessLayer.log (71 hits), the following message is seen:

2016-03-21 10:34:54,862 [9] ERROR SolarWinds.Collector.BusinessLayer.EntityWatcher - EntityCreator process failed SolarWinds.Interfaces.Interface.Creator.SNMP
System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlNullValueException: Data is Null. This method or property cannot be called on Null values.

System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlNullValueException: Data is Null. This method or property cannot be called on Null values.

Environment

  • NPM 11.5.3
  • SAM 6.3.2
  • IPAM 4.3.1
  • NCM 7.4.1
  • DPA 10.0.1
  • STM 5.0.1

Cause 

This is due to nulls in interface table.

Resolution

  1. Update all records with DuplexMode = NULL to 99.
    • UPDATE Interfaces
    • SET DuplexMode = 99
    • where duplexMode is NULL
  2. Restart the services.

Note: 99 is used to differicate the changes in case of rollback. You could also use zero. 


dbo.Interfaces, column DuplexMode holds information about duplex mode for each interface. Currently, there are four duplex mode states:

  • 0 – for unsupported (cannot be polled for some types of interfaces).
  • 1 – for unknown (polled result or neighbor interface is unknown).
  • 2 – for half duplex mode.
  • 3 – for full duplex mode. 
     

If the user adds a new Interface, it cannot be NULL because the DuplexMode column is Not NULL.
