Issue:

The SolarWinds Active Diagnostics utility reports that Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) is either missing or corrupted.

Resolution:

MDAC 2.8 is required, and it should be installed with Windows Server 2003. It is possible, however, that an older version of MDAC remains after upgrading your operating system from a previous version.

To confirm your MDAC version, use Microsoft's Component Checker tool, as follows:

  1. Download and install the Component Checker tool.
  2. Run the Component Checker, as instructed on the page linked above, and then check the MDAC version.
Note: On Windows Server 2003, MDAC version 2.8 should be installed. For more information, see the MSDN Blog article, "MDAC Install Issues - Excellent Overview".
  3. If the installed version of MDAC is older than version 2.8, download a new version of MDAC from Microsoft.
  4. If the installed version of MDAC is version 2.8 or higher, an incompatible .dll may be installed. To address this condition, reinstall MDAC, as indicated above.
  5. After you have confirmed that a valid version of MDAC is installed, run the SolarWinds Configuration Wizard again, opting to confirm all settings (Website, Database and Services).

This article applies to all SolarWinds products based on the Orion Platform
