Managing Packet Loss Reporting in Network Performance Monitor

Overview

To manage the amount of network-wide packet loss reported by Orion, configure the Response Time Retry Count for your polling engine. This setting designates the number of times Orion retries ICMP pings on a monitored device before packet loss is reported.

Environment

  • Network Performance Monitor (NPM)

Steps

To configure the Response Time Retry Count for your polling engine:

  1. Click Start > Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > SolarWinds.Net > SWNetPerfMon.
  3. Right click Settings, and then click New > String Value.
  4. Enter Response Time Retry Count as the New Value.
  5. Right-click Response Time Retry Count, and then click Modify.
  6. Enter your new count in the Value data field, and then click OK.
  7. Close the Registry Editor.

 

On a Windows Server 2012 R2

  1. Click Start > Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > SolarWinds.Net > SWNetPerfMon.
  3. Right click Settings, and then click New > String Value.
  4. Enter Response Time Retry Count as the New Value.
  5. Right-click Response Time Retry Count, and then click Modify.
  6. Enter your new count in the Value data field, and then click OK.
  7. Close the Registry Editor.
