Overview

You receive an error that the message queuing service is not running on the Orion server.

Environment

  • NPM 10.1.2
  • Orion Platform 2011.1
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Server 2012

Cause

Each polling engine uses Microsoft Message Queuing (MSMQ).
Microsoft® Message Queuing (MSMQ) is a messaging protocol that caches data locally on the Orion Polling Engine servers when a connection outage event occurs on the Orion database server.

Resolution

Start the Message Queuing service on all Orion Servers.

  1. Log in to the SolarWinds Orion server as an administrator.
  2. Start the Message Queuing service.
    1. Click Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Services.
    2. Right click on Message Queuing service.
    3. Click Start.
  3. Start the SolarWinds dependent services.
    1. Start SolarWinds Collector Data Processor Service.
    2. Start SolarWinds Collector Polling Controller Service.
    3. Start SolarWinds Information Service.
    4. Start SolarWinds Information Service V3.

When completed, the Message Queuing and all dependent services are running on your Orion server.

You can also start SolarWinds Orion services with the Orion Service Manager.
Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.
