Updating the IIS Website Configuration Settings fails:

Website configuration failed: Failure Updating IIS Website Configuration

  • All Orion Core products

  • Windows Server 2012 R2

Any of the following causes the error:

  • Missing Roles in IIS.
  • This is a known issue that can happen during an upgrade.

  1. Remove the SolarWinds Website.
    1. Log into the server as a Local Administrator.
    2. Open IIS, and locate the SolarWinds website (SolarWinds NetPerfMon).
    3. Right-click the site, and click Stop, then Delete it.
    4. Open C:\inetpub\ and rename the SolarWinds folder to SolarWinds_Old.
  2. Remove the Role 'Application Server' from IIS.
Note: If the Roles Application Server is not installed, then skip to Step 3.

a. Open Server Manager > Manage > Remove Roles and Features.

b. Remove Application server.

  1. Configure your application server.
To configure an application server, start the Configure Your Server Wizard by doing either of the following:
    1. From Manage Your Server, click Add or remove a role. By default, Manage Your Server starts automatically when you log on.
    2. To open Manage Your Server, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Manage Your Server.

a. To open the Configure Your Server Wizard, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools.

b. double-click Configure Your Server Wizard.

c. On the Server Role page, click Application server (IIS, ASP.NET), and then click Next.

  1. Run the SolarWinds Configuration Wizard.

Now Re-Run the Configuration Wizard for all 3 elements (Database, Website & Services) and it will complete without this error. This will also rebuild the website for you.
